Arrival & Transportation
As you prepare for your journey, we want to provide you with important information about your travel.
Airlines and Luggage Requirements
When it comes to air travel, it's important to be aware of the luggage requirements of your chosen airline. Most airlines offer one of two luggage options:
-
The final itinerary shared with you by FHI 360 includes details about your specific baggage allowance for your flights. Always double-check your airline's luggage policy before packing to avoid additional costs. Keep in mind that overweight luggage or additional bags can be pretty expensive.
-
Pack any valuable items, such as laptops, tablets, and cell phones, in your carry-on bag rather than your checked luggage. Always have with you your passport, DS-2019, and flight information. The Pre-Departure Packet shared with you by FHI 360 contains additional guidance on how to prepare for your travel. We recommend reviewing this document carefully before packing.
Arrival in the US and Connection to your Final Destination
Before your connecting flight to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, one of the closest airports to Kent, Ohio, you will most likely fly from your home country to an international hub like Atlanta, Los Angeles, Chicago, or New York. Once you arrive in the United States, you must collect your luggage, go through customs and security, and complete the immigration process. These procedures can take time, so please plan accordingly.
We will also provide you with a welcome letter to show if needed. If asked, your address in the United States will be the Stopher Hall, 1375 Eastway Drive, Kent, OH 44243
(44243 refers to the Zip Code)
After going through security, customs, and immigration, you must recheck your luggage before boarding your connecting flight to Cleveland. This means that you will need to retrieve your luggage from the baggage claim area and take it to the check-in counter for your next flight. Sometimes, you may need to take a train or a bus to reach a different terminal for your connecting flight. We understand that navigating unfamiliar airports can be stressful, so we recommend that you check the monitors or ask an airline representative for help if needed.
Once you arrive in Cleveland, proceed directly to baggage claim to retrieve your luggage.
A KSU staff member will be there to greet you - they will be holding a Kent State flag,
then lead you to the car that will take you to your hotel in Kent.
The trip will take approximately 45 minutes.
If there are any flight delays or changes, please inform us as soon as possible so that we can arrange transportation accordingly.
We are excited to welcome you to Kent State University soon!
